New Delhi [India], February 11 : Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that while reviewing the government’s recent Economic Survey, he identified two significant and thought-provoking points.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said the first key takeaway was that the world is experiencing escalating geopolitical tensions. He observed that the long-standing dominance of the United States is being challenged by China, Russia, and other emerging powers, indicating a shift away from a unipolar global order.
“I was looking at the Economic Survey and found two solid, profound points that I liked. The first is that we are living in a world of intensifying geopolitical conflict. The dominance of the United States is being challenged by the Chinese, by the Russians, and by other forces,” Gandhi said.
The second major observation, he noted, was the increasing weaponisation of energy and finance, with both being used as strategic instruments in global power rivalries. He said the broader message of the Survey suggests that the world is transitioning from a period of stability to one marked by growing instability.
Gandhi recalled that the Prime Minister and the National Security Adviser had previously stated that the era of war was over. However, he argued that current global developments point in the opposite direction.
“The second thing is that we are living in a world of energy and financial weaponisation. The main message here is that we are moving from a world of stability to a world of instability. The Prime Minister and the NSA had said some time back that the era of war is over. In fact, we are moving into an era of war,” he said.
He cited the ongoing war in Ukraine, the conflict in Gaza, tensions in the Middle East, and the potential for conflict involving Iran as examples of this shift. He also referred to Operation Sindoor as part of the evolving security landscape.
The Leader of the Opposition further said that the global order is undergoing a major transformation, with the US dollar and American supremacy facing increasing challenges. According to Gandhi, the world is moving away from a single-superpower framework toward a new and uncertain global order.
“We can see war in Ukraine, war in Gaza, war in the Middle East, and the threat of war involving Iran. We have had operations in Sindoor. We are moving into a world of instability. The dollar is being challenged, US supremacy is being challenged. We are moving from a world of one superpower to a new world that we cannot yet predict,” Gandhi added.
