Cuttack : A major fire broke out early Monday morning in the Trauma Care ICU at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, resulting in the deaths of around 10 patients. At least 11 hospital staff members were injured with burn injuries during the incident.
According to reports, the fire started between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., and thick smoke quickly filled the ICU ward. Several critically ill patients were on life support at the time of the incident.
After receiving information about the fire, fire brigade teams rushed to the hospital and began efforts to control the blaze. Hospital authorities and firefighters managed to evacuate dozens of patients safely from the affected area.
Patients who were in extremely critical condition were immediately shifted to the New Medicine ICU for further treatment. After intense efforts, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.
Chief Minister Visits Hospital
Following the incident, Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, visited the hospital along with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling to review the situation. The Chief Minister also met several patients receiving treatment at the hospital.
During the visit, he stated that hospital staff were injured while trying to rescue and save patients during the fire.
