JAIPUR : On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, women and children from both Shia and Sunni communities took to the streets in Amer, Jaipur, holding a rally and raising slogans against the US and Israel.
Protests against the attacks on Iran were reported across several districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Sikar and Ajmer. On Saturday, people offered Eid prayers wearing black bands, while black flags were hoisted at mosques. Slogans were also raised against the US and Israel during the gatherings.
In Jaipur’s Subhash Chowk, members of the Shia community staged a protest carrying placards with anti-US and anti-Israel messages. In Ajmer, Imam-e-Juma Maulana Syed Taqi Jafar said the community is observing mourning following the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He added that traditional celebrations such as wearing new clothes and preparing sweets would not take place this year.
Black flags were also put up at the Jama Masjid in Subhash Chowk, Jaipur, as a mark of protest.
Meanwhile, Eid prayers were offered for peace, and people greeted each other warmly after the prayers. In a gesture of communal harmony, Hindus showered flowers on worshippers. In Ajmer, the Jannati Darwaza at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was opened for half a day.
