Jaipur : Rajasthan may soon move towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), following indications after Uttarakhand and Gujarat. The state’s BJP leadership is seriously considering the proposal, with discussions gaining momentum.
Sources suggest that a draft related to the UCC is currently being prepared. The state government had earlier hinted in the Assembly that it is actively reviewing the possibility of introducing the code. Work is underway either to form a draft committee or to study the Uttarakhand model.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi is expected to be crucial in this regard, as approval from the party high command will be key before moving forward. BJP state president Madan Rathore may also hold discussions on the matter.
If approved, Rajasthan could become the third state to implement the UCC, and there are indications that a bill may be introduced in the next session of the Rajasthan Assembly.
