Amritsar (Punjab) : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday arrived at the Golden Temple to appear before the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat in connection with his remarks on the ‘Golak’ issue, according to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
As per the PRO, during his appearance before Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and the Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Tek Singh, at the Secretariat, the Jathedars presented the Chief Minister with a copy of the monthly Gurdwara Gazette magazine related to the Sikh code of conduct, along with letters issued by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Earlier, on Tuesday, CM Bhagwant Mann had clarified that he had not sought any change in the timing of his appearance before Sri Akal Takht Sahib after being summoned for alleged statements concerning ‘Guru ki Golak’. In a post on X, Mann said he was fully prepared to appear at 10 am on January 15, as originally directed.
“Respected Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji, I have no other engagements on January 15. The entire day is dedicated to Sri Akal Takht Sahib in accordance with your orders. No official letter or statement regarding a change of time has been issued from my side or my office. I am ready to be present with humility at 10 AM on January 15,” Mann wrote, ending his message with “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
His statement came after the Akal Takht Secretariat issued a notice stating that the Chief Minister had cited prior engagements and sought a change in timing. The Secretariat subsequently asked him to appear at 4:30 pm on January 15 instead of the originally scheduled 10 am.
In its notice, the Secretariat stated that a letter dated January 5, 2026, had invited Mann to give his explanation at 10 am on January 15 at the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat in Amritsar. However, based on references to his engagements, the Jathedar directed that the appearance be rescheduled to 4:30 pm the same day.
Earlier, on January 8, Bhagwant Mann had also requested that his clarification before the Akal Takht Sahib be broadcast live. In another post on X, he said he was receiving messages from Sikhs across the world seeking transparency in the accounting of the ‘Golak’. He urged the Jathedar to allow a live telecast of his clarification so that the sangat could remain fully informed.
“I request the Jathedar Sahib that my clarification be directly broadcast, so that the sangat can stay connected moment by moment and penny by penny in the accounting. See you on January 15 with evidence included,” Mann wrote.
