ITehran : Iran launched an attack on a US military base in the Indian Ocean, firing two intermediate-range ballistic missiles towards the joint US-UK base at Diego Garcia, located about 3,800 kilometres away. However, neither missile was able to hit the target.
According to a US official, the missiles were fired on Friday morning but failed to strike the base. Diego Garcia remains a highly strategic military installation for the United States, playing a crucial role in long-range operations.
Situated in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the base enables the US to conduct rapid and far-reaching military missions without being directly exposed to immediate threats. Its distance from Tehran—approximately 3,800 kilometres—adds to its operational advantage.
The base features a major airfield capable of supporting heavy bombers such as B-2 and B-52 aircraft. It also accommodates large tanker aircraft like KC-135, along with surveillance planes, allowing sustained and long-distance aerial operations.
