Government says it is ready for debate on the motion to remove the Speaker.
New Delhi : The Lok Sabha proceedings on the first day of the second phase of Parliament’s Budget Session ended amid disruptions. The opposition created a major uproar over the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The opposition repeatedly demanded a discussion on how the situation in West Asia after the war could affect India.
The government said that the opposition had brought a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla and that it was ready to discuss it. The government added that the opposition should debate the motion, but instead it introduced another motion, which the External Affairs Minister had already responded to effectively. After this, the House was adjourned until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the External Affairs Minister addressed the Rajya Sabha first and then the Lok Sabha, explaining the preparations regarding the return of Indians from Gulf countries and the energy crisis. He said that contacting Iran’s leadership is currently difficult, but India supports peace and dialogue.
When the External Affairs Minister was speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition staged a walkout. During his address in the Lok Sabha, opposition members raised slogans of “We want discussion” and created a lot of disruption. Despite repeated appeals from the Chair, opposition MPs did not calm down. Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha are still ongoing.
